Volvo Amazon 60th Anniversary & Volvo Classic Cars Club Visit

Delen

When this car was first manufactured (in 1956) it was still called 'Amason' (spelled with an 's'), after the bloodthirsty female warriors in Greek mythology, the Amazons. But the German motorbike manufacturer Kreidler had already registered this name. Both companies agreed that Volvo could continue to use the name in its own country (Sweden), on condition that the name would be written with a 'z'. Thereafter, Volvo decided to use three figures for the naming of the later models. Which is how the name '120 series' came about. In 1970 the last Amazon rolled off the production line. At that time a little over 667,000 cars had been built.

On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Volvo Amazon, Autoworld Brussels has decided to pay homage to this model by bringing 10 special Amazons and a few mythical Volvo models (such as the P1800 and the 1800ES) to Brussels and putting them in the spotlight.
